Fakenham Fair 2010 – a resounding success!

Today’s Fakenham Fair was well attended and the event was great fun. Lots of stalls, bouncy castles, local organisations and demonstrations – and the weather was very kind too!

Fantastic work by Kick Start and the Fakenham Area Partnership – well done, guys. Here’s to a successful full-blown Fakenham Carnival in 2011!!!

Fakenham Fair

What are you doing tomorrow? Did you know that it’s the Fakenham Fair? Well, it is. From 2pm – 6pm in Millennium Park.

“Rides, inflatables, stalls with toys, crafts, games, food, classic cars, bows & arrows, you can even come and build a wall! “

The running order looks like this…

… but may be subject to change. Then in the evening, there’s the disco…

Tidy Up Two – The Revenge

A crew of hardy volunteers turned up at Fakenham Market Square at 10 this morning, in inclement weather, for Kickstart Fakenham’s second Tidy Up day. Fewer attendees than in the summer (were the gale force winds last night to blame?) but lots of rubbish collected none the less.

First prize for strangest item bagged was awarded to Sean Mears’ wasp nest. Largest bag bagged was by Dave Grahame (who doesn’t even live in the county!!!). A useful and fun morning’s work by all.

Thanks to Stephen Jacklin of Kickstart for arranging everything - from bringing the pickers & high-viz jackets to filling in everybody’s favourite bit of paperwork, The Risk Assessment.

Italian Food Market in Fakenham

Fakenham sarà godendo il gusto del Mediterraneo a 2O Venerdì e Sabato 21 novembre, quando il mercato italiano arriva in città. “Italia in Piazza”, promette un sacco di specialità regionali, comprese pizze, pasta, formaggi, carne e pane.

I thought that’d make you look! Sorry if that’s an ‘iffy’ attempt at Italian, but what I was trying to say was…

Fakenham will be enjoying a taste of the Mediterranean on Friday 2oth and Saturday 21st of November, when the Italian Market comes to town. “Italia in Piazza” promises lots of regional delicacies, including pizzas, pasta, cheeses, meats and bread.

Tomorrow sees the annual Firework Display at Fakenham Racecourse. The Chamber of Trade will be running the show, aided as always by the presenters of North Norfolk Radio. Gates will open at 5.00pm for the funfair and the main display will be at 6.30pm. Tickets on the gate are £5 per person (walking) and £15 per car (max 5 persons).

Kickstart Fakenham are organizing an Autumn Tidy Up on Saturday 14th November. Meet up at 10am in the Market Square, where you’ll get your litter-pickers and possibly some natty fluorescent tabards! We attended the last one which was a good fun couple of hours. Bring some friends and have a laugh whilst doing some useful clearing up. Maybe this time we’ll have a side-bet on who collects the weirdest bit of junk!

Fakenham Kickstart Meeting

The next Kickstart Fakenham meeting has been set for Thursday October 22nd at 7pm in the Wensum Lodge, Fakenham. There is an open invitation for anybody to come along and see what’s being done for the town by the group and make suggestions & contributions.

The basic agenda (subject to change) is as follows:
Committee announcements and prospective changes.
Formation of Carnival Committee/other Carnival Business.
Forthcoming events including Autumn Tidy Up and Christmas Lights event.
KSF Website & Logo.
Top of the Shops.
Any other business.

This is from a news item I just posted on FakenhamWeb…

FakenhamWeb has been running since 1999. During that time, it has been the only site promoting the town (albeit in an unofficial capacity). At the first Kickstart Fakenham meeting, it was proposed that there should be a new ‘official’ site, to provide a focus for the town’s internet presence and links to other area websites. I have provided a domain and free hosting for this project and Kickstart people have been working on it for a while now - it should be launching before too long.

FakenhamWeb still gets lots of hits and has established a good presence on Google, so will remain live for the time being. Promotional content has already been transferred to Fakenham.org.uk for archive purposes. A decision regarding the free pages I’ve provided for community organisations will be made after the new official site has been finalised.

Welcome to the new Fakenham.org.uk blog – an unofficial site for the Fakenham area. This will be developed over the coming weeks to reflect the new content being created for the new ‘official’ Fakenham site being written by the Kickstart Fakenham group.

This site will eventually replace FakenhamWeb, which has been the only town ‘community’ site for many years – since 1999 in fact! Content from FakenhamWeb will be transferred and included here for archival purposes where appropriate.
