What a strange comment.

Edit: I thought I'd expand on that...

1) Saying that locals don't go to, or consider other towns is condescending, stereotypical and not actually based on fact. You may also be forgetting the name of this blog.
2) Saying Marstons is nice and friendly is like saying that Tesco or Marks & Spencer is nice and friendly - each outlet will be different, as each will have different staff. Customers will make their own minds up about that when the Running Horse is open.
3) Not all the pubs in town are dirty or run down. I'd say that one or two out of the seven could be described that way.
4) Forget the tractors? What does that even mean?
5) Cheap: I'll agree there, if you mean the food. The average per-head spend on food in one of these Marstons places is just £6, which is a bargain if the food is palatable.

From what we've always been told at work, and from reading the original Marston's press release, they intend the Running Horse to be a 'destination pub' - i.e. they expect it not to take away/attract most business from the town, but from passers by - Thursford coach trips at Christmas and summer holiday makers I assume.

However the size of the building, its proximity to the Northern end of Fakenham as well as Morrisons, Tesco and Focus's original intentions to expand (I think Focus was built 'big enough') and accommodate for an expanding town suggest that Marstons have chosen a very good site indeed... particularly for those of us who work opposite!

At least the architecture of the building is more in keeping with the area which is more than can be said for the awful Tesco store.

It could work, but you'd need to commission the world's worst logo and install a giant clock counting down to the moment your customers can begin being ripped off!

Very sad to see Taylor Print go. Certainly and end of an era. I served my print apprenticeship in the early 70's on hot metal, then paste up and now digital.

Its very hard to make the general public realise what an art printing was ... and possibly still is ... digital has still its 'smoke and mirror' feel to it and will go on and on - as I'm a big fan of it. However, the feel of a fine piece of traditional print is evocative of good times past - and these stalwarts must be admired and celebrated as guardian of good communications. Without them there wouldn't be a future. Will digital 'masterpieces' will survive for the future generations to master at?

I had the pleasure of taking into my custody a 'hand cranked' guillotine from the last printer in Swaffam - 'A. Cohen'.

The guillotine was bought up from the station on a horse and cart in 1905 and was in constant use from then till 2005 upon Mr Cohen's death - and still used today! His letter press blocks and other print memorabilia I have the pleasure in admiring ... the rest went to Swaffham Museum.

My / our task is to keep the standards and traditions of 'real' print going ... even if it's digital.

Thanks Dawn. Your business would need to go onto www.fakenham.biz. Your events would need to go onto something else via a Google calendar. I'll think about that one - the current events are all 'official town ones'.
