Fakenham Farmers' MarketFakenham is an historic and attractive Norfolk market town half way between Norwich and Kings Lynn. It was recently voted the seventh best place to live in the country by Country Life magazine. 

The town’s busy Thursday market starts early in the morning and tends to last until mid-afternoon (depending on the weather). There’s always a bargain to be had at Fakenham Market and the stalls are run by local traders as well as those who ‘do the rounds’ across the region. The Market Place is right in the centre of town, so Thursday’s a good time to leave your car behind and catch a bus in and out!

Fakenham also boasts a popular Farmers’ Market, which takes place on the fourth Saturday of every month. Fresh local produce, organic food and drink and a wide range of home made delicacies are on offer right in the centre of town.

There are three supermarkets to choose from in Fakenham, with Lidl and Morrisons on the north-east edge of town and the new Tesco store just off the Market Square, in Oak Street. The town also has many smaller retailers around the centre, many of them providing a choice of products and specialist service that superstores don’t offer.

You’re spoilt for choice if you want to have a meal or fancy a swift pint! There are eight pubs within walking distance of the centre and a host of takeaway and eat-in restaurants including three Chinese, two Indian, a Thai, a couple of fish & chip shops, pizza, fried chicken, kebab and lots of coffeeshops and cafes.

Fakenham is full of pretty brick-and-flint faced buildings, narrow alleyways and sidestreets. The town centre has in recent years undergone a “face-lift”, with new paving, street signs and a seating area in the market square – which features an interesting floor-display which represents the town’s historic association with the printing trade.

Often said to be the ‘Gateway to the North Norfolk coast’, Fakenham is well situated as a base for exploring the region, as well as providing much for the visitor to do within and around the town itself.

The famous Fakenham Racecourse is located just on the edge of town, and with Pensthorpe Waterfowl Park with its 500 acres of nature trails, The Thursford Collection (boasting steam engines, fairground carousels and the largest Christmas Spectacular Show in England) plus the unique Museum of Gas and Local History to explore, there’s plenty to see right on the doorstep.
