Wetherspoons in Fakenham?
Posted by AdminFeb 8
The local press are reporting that nationwide pub chain JD Wetherspoon are considering opening an outlet in Fakenham. A company spokesperson apparently denied they had looked at The Crown, which remains empty in the town centre, but had viewed another location.
OK – it’s sweepstake time! Any ideas as to the premises they’re considering? Could it be a takeover of The Hungry Horse? Could it be the old Godfrey DIY building by the town sign? Possibly the ex-Learning Centre premises?

It’d be good if it was the HH as it’d be really close to our house! I’m not sure Fakenham would benefit from such a big chain like Wetherspoons but I suppose it opens up jobs. I know that I’d still frequent the smaller independent places but maybe not everyone would?
Well it could be the old Godfry shop, as in the past dew weeks I have notice lots of people looking around the front of the shop with clipboards in hand.
Regardless of wether people would want a large chain people have to remember that such a chain would bring jobs to the town, not to mention the fact that it could be filling one of the many empty premises in the town.
Cheers for the info Vic. I seem to remember some previous plans for an entertainment outlet in that particular premises
I reckon it’d be a good spot, although other local pub owners may not relish the prospect.
You’re 100% right on both counts – a boost to local jobs and another empty building being used. Good things for the town. Wetherspoons will decide themselves whether they think an outlet here will be frequented (looks like they already think that way).
